Will outlets kill aspirational brands?

Aspirational style brands such as Ralph Lauren, Coach and Michael Kors have reported disappointing earnings recently, and many of the struggles can be traced to one common denominator: outlet stores. Outlets sell the brands' products for cheaper than a department store, giving the label a wider audience and therefore, taking away its cache, or being attainable only by a select few. While being available in more stores at different prices can help a brand in the short-term, it may prove fatal in the long-term. Story
