Walmart Pay rolls out nationwide

Walmart Pay is now available at all Walmart stores nationally, marking the end of a rapid deployment of the retailer's new digital payment program.

Shoppers can pay with their mobile devices – both iOS and Android – at any checkout lane. The program is integrated into the Walmart (NYSE:WMT) app and users can register any credit, debit, prepaid or Walmart gift card.

The company began rolling out Walmart Pay in May after a introducing it as a test in December. Implementation ramped up quickly. Transactions increased 45 percent in the last week and the feature is proving to have staying power.

Roughly 88 percent of transactions are coming from repeat users and 82 percent said they would recommend using Walmart Pay, according to an emailed statement.

Walmart had been trying to develop a mobile payment platform as part of a consortium of retailers, but ended tests of the Merchant Customer Exchange's CurrentC shortly after Walmart Pay launched.
