Walmart makes executive moves around 'Next Generation'

Walmart's (NYSE:WMT) U.S. President and CEO Greg Foran has announced in an internal memo yet another round of executive changes at Walmart. The appointments involve some internal leaders, some newly created job titles and some top resignations.

The executive moves, handed down by the company's president and CEO Doug McMillon, was described as a part of a larger strategy to lead the "next generation work streams," reported Retailing Today.

Just last month, Walmart announced a host of senior management changes including the promotion of Judith McKenna to COO for Walmart U.S. McKenna succeeded Gisel Ruiz, who has been appointed executive VP of Walmart's international people division. And back in the fall, the company dismissed 30 executives from its China division in an effort to streamline the business.

Jane Ewing, senior VP, business development, Walmart U.S., will lead the next generation stock-up. Jeff McAllister, senior VP, Walmart Innovations, will lead the next generation supply Chain. And Latriece Watkins, senior VP, snacks and beverages, Walmart U.S., will lead the ways of working work stream.

Other executive moves include Laura Phillips, senior VP, entertainment, Walmart U.S., will now take on the role of senior VP, omnichannel assortments. In this capacity, she will be expected to help the company win key categories through both online and offline streams. In addition Greg Hall, senior VP, hardlines for Walmart U.S., was named senior VP, entertainment, Walmart U.S. To replace him, Terry Price will rejoin the company after a hiatus with Tesco. Price was with Walmart and its Asda division for 22 years before leaving in 2003.

Retirements from the retailer include John Aden, executive VP, sales innovation, Walmart U.S. and Bryan Miller, senior VP, human resources, Walmart U.S.

This is just the latest in a series of executive and strategic changes at Walmart as the retailer shifts focus from large-format supercenters to small stores and digital growth through projects such as its new e-receipt platform.
