Walmart greets Prime Day with free shipping

Walmart (NYSE:WMT) is getting into position to battle Amazon with free shipping and no minimum orders this week to better compete with Prime Day.

The offer is good from Monday, July 11 through July 15.

There are also a slew of new Rollbacks on popular items including a large screen HDTV, laptops, gaming consoles and select Apple products.

Amazon's Prime Day is July 12, and the event will unleash deals every five minutes for Prime members.

"We know a lot of customers will be looking for great deals online this week, and we want to give them more than just one way to save on shipping," said a Walmart spokesperson in an emailed statement.

Walmart is also offering a free 30-day trial for ShippingPass, its two-day shipping program that provides unlimited two-day shipping with no minimum order for $49 a year. Shoppers can try out the service for free and existing members are being credited with one additional month.
