Walgreens names former Walmart exec chief merchandising officer

Walgreens announced Linda Filler has been named president of retail products and chief merchandising officer, effective Jan. 1.

Filler will be charged with taking the lead on the company's vision, leadership, strategic direction and performance of all Walgreens merchandising activities. She was most recently served as president of Claire's Stores, operating more than 3,000 locations in 17 countries in North America and Europe. Before that, she was executive VP and chief merchandising officer for Sam's Club, where she led and owned brand strategy. Filler also held executive VP positions at Walmart and Kraft Foods Group, as well as leadership positions at Hanes Brands.

"Linda brings to Walgreens significant experience in merchandising, marketing and strategy in a variety of industries and will be a great addition to our leadership team and our retail products division," said Alex Gourlay, president of customer experience and daily living, and president-elect of Walgreen Co. "With her deep experience across a broad range of product lines and strong supplier relationships, Linda has the expertise to understand what our customers want and to innovate quickly to create an experience that drives loyalty and results."

Gourlay added that Filler's international experience will be especially helpful as Walgreens closes the second phase of its strategic partnership with Alliance Boots in the first quarter of next year. Press release
