Walgreens launches 'Way to Well' tour

Walgreens (NYSE: WAG) is launching a health and wellness tour to provide free health tests, assessments, education and consulting services to communities across the country.

Visitors at each tour stop can select from a variety of free risk resources and assessments, including total cholesterol, glucose, blood pressure, body mass index, body composition, skeletal muscle, resting metabolism, visceral fat, real body age and body weight. Walgreens' certified wellness staff members and pharmacists will also offer consultations on how to use fitness devices and digital applications that can track personal health and fitness goals.

In order to draw attention to its mobile initiatives, Walgreens will also use the Way to Well Health Tour to give tutorials about its Balance Rewards program. Devices installed on-site at each tour stop will give visitors the opportunity to learn how to use the devices and sync them to auto-log their healthy activities into their Balance Rewards account. Users can then access the Walgreens mobile app to monitor their progress, view earned points and connect with a virtual community.

The Walgreens Way to Well Health Tour is hosted in partnership with AARP and is one of the charitable programs that is part of the Walgreens Way to Well Commitment. The program launched in 2011 as a four-year, $100 million initiative to improve the health of Americans nationwide.

The Way to Well Health Tour will run now through December. Walgreens has designed a fleet of four customized vehicles that will simultaneously tour separate regions of the U.S. and Puerto Rico.

This health tour is the second campaign announcement from Walgreens, following last week's news that the company has teamed up with Coupons.com to launch a Retailer iQ targeting and analytics platform in all 8,000 stores. The program is designed to personalize promotions, checkout offers and mobile incentives for shoppers. The partnership will include a push for digital e-receipts via text message and email, personalized recommendations for products and coupons, integrated shopping lists and real time analytics.
