Walgreens Boots Alliance names new global CFO

Walgreens Boots Alliance named George Fairweather, previously group finance director of Alliance Boots, as the company's new executive VP and global CFO, effective February 20, 2015.

He will take the place of Timothy McLevish, who has been CFO of Walgreens since August of last year and was instrumental in completing the retailer's merger with Alliance Boots. McLevish has since served as global CFO for the combined companies and will remain as senior advisor to the CEO for finance, integration and business development. Walgreens' former CFO Wade Miquelon stepped down in Aug. 2014 as the drugstore chain considered moving its headquarters to Europe.

Fairweather has been group finance director for Alliance Boots since its formation in 2006, joining Alliance UniChem in the same position in 2002 where he oversaw financial integration for the company's merger with Boots Group. Before that, he was group finance director of Elementis, and previously held the same position for Dawson International.

"We welcome George to lead the Walgreens Boots Alliance global finance group as we move forward following our successful merger to create the first international pharmacy-led health, wellbeing and beauty retail enterprise," said Jim Skinner, Walgreens Boots Alliance executive chairman, in a statement. "George's global experience and expertise, and service with Alliance Boots, will ensure an effective transition and the strong financial leadership the future combined enterprise will need going forward."
