In-tweet shopping arrives with 'buy now' button

The time for converting tweets into purchases may be here with the arrival of a "buy now" button from shopping app Fancy.

As reported by Re/code, what was previously a mock-up recently went live. The products being shared on the app are beginning to integrate into Twitter feeds, making linking the social media platform with e-commerce a reality.

Re/code spoke with someone who said that tapping on the button did lead to a checkout page within the Twitter app. But Twitter spokesman Jim Pressor declined to comment on the move.

Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) recently began monetizing Twitter by allowing shoppers to link their Amazon account and place items in their shopping basket by responding to any tweet with an item bearing the hashtag #AmazonCart.

This trend could mean big money for retailers, as Twitter was ranked the best social media platform for connecting with customers. A recent study found that customer service issues find a higher engagement on Twitter than Facebook and customers engage more with a brand via this platform than on retailers' own websites.
