Toys R Us veteran joins Hudson's Bay as digital exec-VP

Hudson's Bay Company hired Dion Rooney as exec-VP, HBC Digital. Rooney joins Hudson's Bay from Toys R Us, where he has worked since 1984 and was most recently senior VP and CIO.

Rooney has more than 30 years of leadership background in IT, including experience in e-commerce, omnichannel retailing and supply chain.

Credited with building the Toys R Us omnichannel strategy and offerings, Rooney also served as the company's senior VP of global e-commerce for 2 years.

"With digital commerce transforming the shopping experience, we are committed to continuously evolving our all-channel experience and enabling our customers to buy anywhere and ship anywhere," said Jerry Storch, CEO of Hudson's Bay Company. "Dion's proven success in developing global e-commerce strategies and achieving significant growth through all-channel retailing will help us realize best-in-class performance as we continue to invest in our digital business."

This is the second executive to leave Toys R Us in just two months. In July, the retailer's chief digital officer left to take the same job at Barnes & Noble, shortly after Toys R Us announced bringing its entire e-commerce platform in-house.

Meanwhile, Rooney's new employer, Hudson's Bay, was named the fastest growing retailer in the United States by STORES Magazine in August. Press Release
