Toys R Us hosts holiday Twitter party

Toys R Us' holiday shopping strategy is heavily focused on social media and engaging its most loyal shoppers as the retailer announces pre-Black Friday events, including a Twitter party.

Like Sears and Kmart, the retailer is giving its most loyal shoppers early access to deals, making 100 Black Friday doorbusters available in stores and online beginning Sunday Nov. 22. Toys R Us credit card holders will also receive an extra 10 percent off purchases when using the card in stores during the season.

Online deals also begin at 9 p.m. EST on Thanksgiving, an hour earlier than last year.

Toys R Us is relying heavily on social media this season and will host a Twitter party on Tuesday Nov. 24 at 2 p.m. EST with the hashtag #BlackFridayMadeEasy. During the event, hosted in partnership with The Mommyhood Chronicles, shoppers will hear more about Black Friday doorbusters and services, and get gift suggestions.

The retailer will follow up with a cross-platform social media campaign on Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter.

Creating buzz and offering added benefits, such as extra points and discounts, will be critical for Toys R Us this season. A recent study by Boomerang Commerce found the toy retailer to be among the most expensive for key toys heading into the holiday season.
