Tommy Bahama unveils new retail-restaurant concept store

Tommy Bahama will open a new concept store in Harbourside Place in Jupiter, Florida, which combines retail with a restaurant.

Set to open Nov. 20, the integrated concept will be a unique layout from other Tommy Bahama locations, reported Women's Wear Daily. The company currently operates 14 joint retail-restaurant locations worldwide, but the Florida store eliminates the barrier between the traditional shopping area and the dining. The set-up allows customers to browse through the assortment, or get a private styling session, cocktails in tow.

The restaurant seats 220 customers and measures, 4,774 sq. ft. and the retail space is 3,475 sq. ft.

Store features include a wrap-around outdoor dining space near the beach. The decor mimics a beach with the white and caramel wood, blue tiles, sun-bleached fixtures and the company's signature palm trees.

Other embellishments include repurposed wood, Brazilian quartz counters and table tops, banquettes under shaded canopies, white coral Florida limestone, and glazed recycled paper and natural grass in the dining area.

Naples, Florida was the site of the company's first "island" retail-restaurant location, which opened in 1996.

Concept stores are a growing trend among retailers, as brands look to entertain, inform and create a unique experience for shoppers. For example, this week footwear and apparel brand Ugg opened a technology-driven concept store in the Washington, D.C.-area. Technological enhancements include radio frequency identification, customization stations, and tablets for shopping 230 SKUs both in-store and online.

And RadioShack (NYSE:RSH) recently opened two more concept stores, with one in Manhattan as the chain continues to pepper the urban island with shiny new prototypes.
