Taubman mall rolls out new app

Taubman has introduced a new map featuring indoor navigation for a more personalized shopping experience.

The new University Town Center in Sarasota, Florida offers an iOS app with navigation technology by Spreo. It lets shoppers locate stores, restaurants and entertainment properties. It also saves favorite locations, offers recommendations including a personalized "inspiration board" informed by the shopper's selected favorite stores.

"Our new mobile app changes the shopping experience, bringing mall navigation and personalization to the forefront like never before," said Ivan Frank, director of digital marketing for Taubman. "Taubman is pleased to be the leader in bringing this technology to shoppers to enhance their in-mall experience."

The "Mall at UTC" app is now available through the Apple App Store with an Android version launching soon. The app is being piloted at UTC now, but is scheduled to roll out to Taubman properties across the United States over the next year.

In May, Taubman rolled out new digital upgrades to its properties to include free basic Internet access for all its brick-and-mortar tenants.

The newest property also features electric car charging stations, free Wi-Fi, interactive touchscreen directories and charging stations for electronics. UTC is the only newly-built, enclosed regional shopping center to open in the United States in 2014, according to the company. It features approximately 880,000 sq. ft. of retail space with Saks Fifth Avenue, Macy's, Dillard's and more than 100 specialty stores and restaurants.
