Target names Jacqueline Rice chief risk and compliance officer

Target (NYSE:TGT) announced that it has hired Jacqueline Hourigan Rice in the role of senior VP, chief risk and compliance officer, effective Dec. 1. She will report directly to CEO and Chairman Brian Cornell, and will be responsible for centralized oversight of enterprise risk management, compliance, vendor management and corporate security.

Rice was most recently chief compliance officer for General Motors Company, where she worked for 17 years in leadership roles involved with ethics, compliance and data privacy.

"Earlier this year, Target stated our commitment to overhaul our information security and compliance structure and practices, and with that came the need to elevate the role of key positions in the company," said Cornell. "Jackie is a proven leader with solid global experience and I know she has what it takes to help us move forward in this complex and ever-changing environment."

The appointment is particularly important as the anniversary of Target's notorious data breach is looming. The retailer is pushing holiday initiatives like 3D printing, free shipping and pop-up shops in hopes of putting its ghost of Christmas past behind it.
