Target names former Tesco exec as new CIO

Target announced the appointment of Mike McNamara as executive VP and CIO. He will be tasked with advancing the retailer's digital transformation and making Target a leading omnichannel retailer, reporting to Chairman and CEO Brian Cornell.

He takes the place of Bob DeRodes, who retires from his role in guiding the chain's information security efforts.

"Technology is critical for Target's future success. So finding the right leader for this role was one of my absolute top priorities," Cornell said in a statement. "Mike has been a driving force for technology innovation throughout his career. He's got a stellar track record, and I'm excited to see how he'll help our team continue to push new innovations that enhance the shopping experience for Target guests, both online and in stores."

McNamara comes to Target from Tesco, where he worked for more than 15 years. He was named CIO for the supermarket chain in 2011, tasked with overseeing information technology systems and helped modernize the retailer's supply chain around the world. Press release
