Talbot's opens remodeled flagship

Talbot's has rebooted its Manhattan flagship and unveiled the newly remodeled store May 5, before opening to the public on May 6.

The nearly 22,000-sq.-ft. location is now light and airy, according to Women's Wear Daily. And the six-story townhouse is a showcase for the retailer's latest positioning as a "modern classic."

The top level is reserved for one-on-one meetings with a personal sales assistant and will also house trunk shows. The selection is less staid and more "whimsical," according to Talbot's CEO Lizanne Kindler.

These efforts have been several years in the making and the retailer has begun to reap some rewards. Store traffic is up for two years in a row, Kindler told WWD. The company does not report sales.

Talbots has been remodeling stores and roughly 26 locations reflect the new format. Two new stores opened in suburban Chicago after the downtown location was closed. There's a new unit in Sarasota, Florida and an relocated store in McLean, Virginia.

After an attempt by former executives to sell trendy fashions, Kindler has refocused Talbot's core customer in apparel, shoes and accessories. There is also a new T Talbots line of casual wear.
