Taco Bell taps president as new CEO

Taco Bell has appointed current President Brian Niccol as its new CEO. Niccol will succeed current CEO Greg Creed, who will become head of Taco Bell's parent Yum! Brands (NYSE: YUM), which also operates Pizza Hut and KFC, at the start of next year.

Niccol assumes responsibility for a chain that totals more than 6,000 restaurants in the United States. The quick-serve restaurant chain plans to double revenue over the next 10 years and open about 2,000 restaurants.

Niccol has "overseen multiple breakthrough initiatives" under his tenure, Creed said in a statement. Creed also lauded Niccol's role in rolling out Taco Bell's new breakfast menu. The menu launched earlier this year and features items such as the Waffle Taco, which is a waffle shell stuffed with breakfast ingredients.

Niccol was previously chief marketing and innovation officer for the Irvine, California-based Taco Bell. Prior to joining Taco Bell, Niccol was general manager for Pizza Hut USA, and held several brand management positions at Procter & Gamble.
