Staples appoints Peter Scala VP, merchandising

Staples has named Peter Scala executive VP of merchandising, effective immediately. He will also be a member of the office supply retailer's executive committee, reporting to Demos Parneros, president of North American stores and online. He fills the role vacated by Mike Edwards, who resigned to pursue other interests.

"Peter is a passionate leader who has driven innovative thinking and strong partnerships during his career at Staples," Parneros said in a statement. "He will make a tremendous impact in his new role as we continue to provide our customers everything they need to succeed."

Scala most recently served as senior VP of merchandising, online marketplace, taking the lead on the company's quick expansion of product assortment for small and mid-size business customers. Before that, he filled several leadership positions in merchandising such as senior VP/general merchandising manager technology and senior VP of technology innovation. Press release
