Skechers opens in-store concept shop in Michigan Meijer

Meijer is opening an in-store Skechers in one of its Grand Rapids locations. The concept shop, measuring 804 sq. ft., is the largest in-store Skechers shop located within another U.S. retailer's store.

The shop features more than 200 shoes for men, women and children, reported MLive.

"Meijer has been a strong Skechers partner for many years, so we're thrilled to expand our retail presence in their stores with this new shop-in-shop concept," Rick Graham, Skeckers' senior VP of domestic sales, told MLive. "It will showcase the Skechers brand with impactful visual displays, and create an accessible environment that is easy for customers to shop in."

The new shop's opening comes about one year after Meijer announced it would emphasize fashion as a way to get shoppers into its grocery stores. The chain is also in the middle of an aggressive two-year plan to roll out new stores.

Meijer has offered Skechers merchandise at its locations for more than a decade because of the brand's expressed focus on family. Prices for shoes range from $40 to $55 for children, $60 to $75 for women, and $60 to $85 for men. The shoe company plans to show off new design releases within the Meijer concept shop, including some costing upwards of $85.

The concept shop is outfitted with four video screens providing product information. It also plays clips of celebrity endorsers. The project is part of a potentially larger pilot that may be incorporated into more select stores in the future.
