Simon Property Group (NYSE: SPG) is partnering with mobile shopping app Zoomingo to provide holiday discounts for shoppers in select markets.
Zoomingo's app enables users to find sales at local retailers and earn points that can be redeemed for rewards. Simon Malls, the largest mall operator in the U.S., is promoting the Zoomingo app in key California and Washington markets. Shoppers with the app will be alerted to sales from retailers in the targeted Simon malls. Several participating retailers will also provide rewards via the app.
"Mobile has become a huge resource for shoppers in helping them make their shopping decisions. I think the key activity the people are engaging in is people are looking for local sales events," Shirish Nadkarni, CEO and co-founder of Zoomingo, told Mobile Commerce Daily.
This is not Simon Malls' first foray into using mobile technology to boost sales and traffic. The company recently signed an agreement with Mobiquity to leverage Bluetooth technology in its malls. The technology recognizes mobile users and sends them offers and branded messages from retailers.
