Shoptalk gets early buzz

There's a new retail leadership conference planned for May, and already the initial lineup of 125 speakers carries a number of retail luminaries.

Shoptalk is from the folks behind Money20/20, an annual event for the payments and financial community.

Ultimately, Shoptalk plans to host more than 300 speakers including already confirmed executives from both traditional retailers and the new disruptors. Executives from Macy's, Neiman Marcus, Target and Kohl's are all confirmed, as are those from Dollar Shave Club, and Stitch Fix.

"Our speakers comprise an unparalleled grouping of key figures in commerce ranging from early stage innovators to recognized and established pioneers of retail and e-commerce.  These are the minds reshaping how products, services and experiences are created, curated and consumed," said Anil Aggarwal, founder and chairman of Shoptalk. "The scope of our coverage and initial speaker lineup demonstrate that there is no other event like Shoptalk."

The preliminary agenda includes topics such as disruptive retail startups, entrepreneurship and investment, and trends in on-demand delivery and logistics.

There are big picture topics including changing shopper preferences, evolving marketing trends and design.

In addition, Shoptalk will hold a Startup Pitch Contest in which early stage companies will have the chance to present their business plans to a panel of judges from leading venture capital firms for a $25,000 prize.

There are many conferences for merchants and suppliers to choose from, but Shoptalk is garnering early buzz based on the expertise and credibility of its founders, including Aggarwal, Jonathan Weiner of Google Wallet, and Don Kingsborough, former head of retail at PayPal.
