Sears offers in-vehicle returns, exchanges

Sears (NASDAQ:SHLD) is gearing up mobile by making returns and exchanges part of its in-vehicle pickup service. The new service, powered by the Shop Your Way mobile app, lets loyalty members pick up, return or exchange purchases for free in five minutes or less from their cars.

"Buying what you really want should be easy. That's why we continue to make it more convenient to pick up, return and exchange items that you have purchased right from your car," said Leena Munjal, senior VP, Sears Holdings. "We're all living busy, on-the-go lives, and this latest expansion to Sears integrated retail conveniences means that you can spend less time making a return or exchange and more time shopping."

How it works: First a Shop Your Way member visits Sears.com, clicks on the customer service link and chooses "Returns and Exchanges." Then the customer follows the prompts to return an item or find a replacement for exchange. Once the transaction is complete, the customer will receive an email confirmation usable at any Sears location. Parking spots designed for in-vehicle pickup services use the customer's Shop'In feature in the Shop Your Way mobile app to let the store know he or she has arrived. A timer will start on the phone and within five minutes an associate will come to the car.

Earlier this year Sears launched the in-vehicle pickup service and the corresponding feature on the Shop Your Way mobile app. Members who "Shop'In" from the app while at or near a Sears or Kmart can unlock special deals including coupons, customer reviews and sweepstakes.

Sears' successful social shopping community and membership program, Shop Your Way, recently added 50 new brand partners to the roster. The tens of millions of shoppers registered for the service now have access to more categories for rewards opportunities.

In another effort to make products and services more accessible to its customers, Sears recently expanded its order online, pick up in-store program to include more than 2,000 locations.
