Sears hires Amazon execs for new engineering office

Sears is recruiting engineers for a new software development office in Seattle, and it started by hiring a group of former Amazon executives. The new office will lead an effort to upgrade the technology and user experience for the Sears Home Services business, GeekWire reported. It also will be involved in Sears' Internet of Things initiatives, an in-store program now being rolled out to 500 stores following an initial trial.

The retailer said it wasn't ready to talk publicly about its plans, but GeekWire puts Seattle "on the front lines of Sears' effort to bring a key part of its business into the modern era of technology." According to Sears, it is the nation's largest provider of residential services such as appliance repair, furniture cleaning, home remodeling, maintenance and other forms of home improvement.
