Rue21 to streamline checkout with new POS

Apparel retailer rue21 is now offering a more streamlined shopper experience at checkout with personalized promotions as the chain builds out its omnichannel infrastructure.

The collaboration with Epicor Software--solutions for manufacturing, distribution, retail and services organizations--is meant to ensure a seamless omnichannel experience across both in-store and online points of retail for rue21 shoppers. The point-of-sale solution is designed to reduce checkout time and improve customer experience, while driving greater sales and loyalty, according to Epicor.

Rue21 operates 1,050 stores across 47 states and an e-commerce site. Using the new technology, shoppers will be able to easily return and exchange items regardless of where items were purchased. It will also aid store associates in viewing cross-channel transactions.

"Shoppers will soon experience a new level of service from rue21," said Dirk Armstrong, senior VP of store operations, rue21. "Epicor Retail Store gives us the foundation to create a seamless customer experience across our stores and our e-commerce business. We will have the ability to better serve customers through an understanding of their past purchases, enabling us to anticipate future wants and needs."

The retailer also said the new technology would increase the variety and ease of promotional offers, which is a win for both shoppers and sales staff.

Retailers are implementing systems to support omnichannel efforts as the holiday season approaches. Ubiquitous returns, endless aisle inventory and ordering options that include in-store pickup will help define the winners and losers this holiday.
