Rite Aid names Steve Rempel CIO

Rite Aid announced the appointment of Steve Rempel to the role of senior VP and CIO of the company. He will be tasked with looking after all parts of the retailer's technology and information operations, such as computer systems, network infrastructure, telecommunications and data security, reporting to Senior Executive VP and Chief Administrative Officer Frank Vitrano.

"Steve is an information technology expert with a proven track record in creating, driving and delivering value and results through innovative technology solutions," Vitrano said in a statement. "His vast retail experience will be extremely valuable to Rite Aid as we continue to develop our technology and services platforms and strategies to further strengthen our business operations and enhance the experiences of our valued customers and associates."

Rempel was previously CIO, president and CEO for Balance Innovations, where he oversaw the company's technology strategy and provided strategic, financial and operational direction. He began his career at Safeway, where he spent 35 years in various roles—including group VP of application development, in which he was responsible for all aspects of the information technology applications process.
