An RFID Chip That Checks Your Fingerprint

Broadcom has introduced an RFID chip that won't transmit sensitive information until it authenticates with a fingerprint reader. Citing applications included physical access and contactless payment, the semiconductor player rolled out the BCM5890 in a partnership with biometrics company Privaris, according to a report in RFIDUpdate. "A key feature is that the approved fingerprint information is stored on the fob, so the authentication is all done 'on-board' and the system does not need to transmit the scanned fingerprint to a remote database for verification," the story said.
