OnStar's app makes retailers more mobile

Mobile shopping just got a bit more literal as subscribers of OnStar's AtYourService will soon be able to access coupons and retail offerings through a mobile app in addition to the car interface.

AtYourService is a multichannel platform that sends users merchant offers to the on-board interface, but the service is being extended to mobile phones as an added feature to the RemoteLink app.

RemoteLink has more than 1.6 million active users who use the app to remotely start their vehicle, unlock doors, get vehicle information and send routes to their car. AtYourService connects Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac owners with retailers and merchants, providing information and money-saving offers tied to their location. AtYourService is currently available through OnStar advisors.

Available content will be updated based on location, time of day and day of the week. Offers can be saved for use anytime and the app can be personalized when users "favorite" frequently visited locations. Guidance plan subscribers can have directions to an offer-based location downloaded directly to their vehicle.

"With our very active RemoteLink user base, and a growing demand for mobile couponing, the integration of AtYourService into our RemoteLink mobile app will help create a more personalized and convenient driving experience," said Mark Lloyd, consumer online officer, OnStar.

Participating merchants include Dunkin' Donuts and RetailMeNot.

This is OnStar's entry into the growing mobile coupon market. The company cited data from Statista that forecasted more than 92 million mobile coupon users in the United States by 2015, with redemption rates 10 times higher than that for paper coupons.

Approximately 35 percent of OnStar point-of-interest navigation requests in North America are for retail locations, 20 percent are for restaurants and 10 percent are for hotels.
