New electronics showroom hits NYC

Sonos will open its first flagship store in New York City on July 19 as a showcase for its smart sound systems.

"The music experience in your home, and how it sounds, is just as important as the perfect chair or considered lighting," said Dmitri Siegel VP, global brand. "The whole store experience is based on the idea of being in a really comfortable and inspiring environment, listening to music you love, but hearing it in a way you never have before."

The 4,200-square-foot store houses seven state-of-the-art Sonos listening rooms on two levels.

"Each room has been acoustically designed to replicate a great home listening environment," said Giles Martin, Sonos sound experience leader. "The intention is to allow the music to do the talking, making it easy for everyone to experience Sonos exactly as they would at home, even though they are in the retail environment."

The location will also offer white-glove installation services, local delivery and product instruction in store. There are art installations relative to music and its culture, and the facility will host live events and performances.

A selection of Sonos products have long been sold directly from the company or through a handful of retailers, including Target. As connected smart home devices proliferate, brands and retailers including Target and Lowe's are increasingly opening facilities to provide a more hands-on experience for mass market shoppers.
