NCR To Split, Allow More Self-Checkout, POS Focus

NCR on Monday confirmed that it is splitting into two independent publicly traded companiesby spinning off its $1.5 billion Teradata data warehousing business.

The impact on retail tech may be minimal, but the company is hoping that the fewer distractions from its self-checkout and POS businesses couldn't hurt. NCR said the distribution ratio will be determined at a future date and that the spin off is "expected to be completed in six to nine months," subject to regulatory approvals.
