Natural Grocers launches one-hour delivery service

Natural Grocers has partnered with Instacart to start delivering groceries in Portland in as little as an hour.

The chain will be the fifth Portland-area grocery store offering delivery service through Instacart. The new delivery service will allow customers in Hillsboro, Beaverton, Tigard, Tualatin, Lake Oswego and downtown Portland to get groceries from Natural Grocers' Beaverton store.

"Our customers trust us to only source products that meet the highest health, safety and environmental responsibility standards," said Kemper Isely, co-president of Natural Grocers. "By partnering with Instacart, we can offer Portland-area residents the same great selection, with the added convenience of same-day delivery straight to their home or office—which is especially valuable to those who are busy and don't have time to make it into our store."

Customers can place orders on the Web or through Instacart's iOS and Android apps. Instacart has personal shoppers receive orders on mobile devices, then they handpick items and make the delivery.

"Instacart and Natural Grocers are both committed to providing the highest quality products and superior service," said Nilam Garenthiran, head of business development and strategy, Instacart. "Given Natural Grocers' unique selection of healthy living items, it's exactly the type of store our customers have been wanting to see in the Portland area. For this reason and more, we're excited to add Natural Grocers to the Instacart marketplace."

Customers can also open an Instacart Express account for $99 a year and get free delivery on all orders of $35 or more.

Last month Instacart announced a partnership with Petco (NASDAQ:PETC) to offer a one-hour delivery service to pet lovers in the San Francisco and greater Boston areas. Instacart simultaneously announced it would start delivering Petco products to shoppers in the San Jose area.

Natural Grocers joins a host of other retailers that offer same-day grocery delivery through Instacart including Costco (NASDAQ: COST), Kroger (NYSE: KR), Whole Foods (NASDAQ: WFM), Trader Joe's and Safeway (NYSE: SWY).
