More than 137M consumers plan to shop Black Friday weekend

Holiday shopping mall
Retailers should expect a big turnout for Black Friday shopping events this year.

The National Retail Federation is predicting 137.4 million U.S. shoppers will hit brick-and-mortar or online stores over the four days of Black Friday weekend. That's up from 135.8 million during the same period last year, according to a survey the industry group conducted with Prosper Insights & Analytics. Although many analysts have said the election dampened consumer spending in the first 10 days of November, there is optimism that the holiday season will more than make up for the loss. (Fortune)
