More details about new Wegmans store in Brooklyn

Wegmans is a shopper favorite on the East Coast but has yet to open a store in New York City. But the company is getting closer to that goal and now has the physical plans in place for its first location there.

Developer Steiner NYC has filed permit applications for an 87,000-sq.-ft. store in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, according to Supermarket News. Plans also detail a 104,000-sq.-ft. parking lot.

Renderings from the architect, S9 Architecture, reveal a glass and steel facade. The store will be part of a larger development in the Admiral's Row portion of the Navy Yard, a former shipbuilding facility for the Navy dating back to 1801.

Wegmans ranks as the favorite grocery store of U.S. shoppers and has 89 stores in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, Maryland and Massachusetts.

The Brooklyn location was announced roughly a year ago and likely won't open until 2018, according to Curbed.
