Meijer to launch garden marketplace within stores

Meijer has announced a partnership with lawn and garden brand Scotts-MiracleGro to create a Garden Marketplace inside 27 supermarket locations. The stores-within-stores will open across the Midwest just in time for the peak gardening season.

Located in the seasonal department, the Marketplace will feature a variety of Scotts-MiracleGro and Meijer brand products ranging from seed packets and soil to lawn food and pest control products.

"We know the average homeowner spends four hours a week caring for their lawn and garden, which is why the Garden Marketplace will focus on providing solutions for our customers' outdoor needs," said Bill Stechebar, divisional merchandise manager for garden/floral for Meijer. "This partnership gives us an opportunity to expand our already robust Garden Centers and become an outdoor destination."

Meijer is no stranger to opening stores-within-stores. For example, last month the chain announced the opening of an in-store Skechers shop, and last spring the retailer announced it would expand its in-store healthcare options by adding new Meijer Optical centers to several stores.
