Meijer rolls out ready-to-go meal options

The Meijer supermarket chain has rolled out a new omnichannel initiative that features an everyday meal line. The Ready! for You program will be available in each of the 213 Meijer stores at specially marked branded displays.

Meijer, a privately-held retailer, recently announced it would rapidly expand in the next two years, 10-12 stores a year, and enter Wisconsin with about 12 stores.

The idea behind Ready! for You is to combine food items from various manufacturers and make them ready-to-go for a family of four, reported the Grand Rapids Business Journal. To kick off the program, samples will be available at weekly demos.

In conjunction, Meijer is creating online videos with easy food ideas, posting Ready! for You recipes for all meals on its Pinterest boards.

"One of the biggest hurdles that prevents families from cooking at home is finding new meal and snack ideas that are affordable, delicious and quick to prepare," Shari Steinbach, healthy living advisor at Meijer told the Grand Rapids Business Journal.

Meals range between $12 and $15.

Meijer is one of several grocery and convenience store chains jumping on the growing consumer demand for healthy, ready-to-go meal options. Earlier this month 7-Eleven announced it would start testing a line of nutritionally balanced foods and cold-pressed juices for on-the-go customers.
