Matthew A. Kaness, Former Chief Strategy Officer at Urban Outfitters, Inc., Joins ModCloth as New CEO

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) January 12, 2015--ModCloth, the leading online retailer specializing in unique styles from independent designers, announced today that on January 19th, Co-founder Eric Koger will hand over the reins as CEO to Matthew A. Kaness. The appointment comes as ModCloth continues to scale its operations and expand its distribution.

"ModCloth was built on a belief that women don't want to be told what to wear, but rather they want to be inspired by other women and to dress and feel like the best version of themselves. ModCloth now touches the lives of millions of women around the world, and it's the right time to bring in the leadership of an experienced retail executive to help scale operations and to help our beloved brand reach its full potential.

Susan and I have known and admired Matt for some time, appreciating his understanding of both the art and science of retail and building great brands. We were thrilled to find he shares our vision for ModCloth's potential and are confident he is the best person to lead the organization ahead," said Eric Koger, co-founder and CEO of ModCloth since its inception in 2002.

Eric Koger will remain with the company to help with the transition and key projects. Susan Koger continues on in her current role as Chief Creative Officer.

"I am elated to join the ModCloth team. I admire how Susan and Eric have built a large and fast-growing business around a highly engaged and loyal community. The company is innovative and creative, celebrates the diversity of its community and includes its customers as part of the experience.

The opportunity for ModCloth is unfettered and it's a privilege to lead this team," said Matthew A. Kaness, newly appointed CEO and Board Director of ModCloth.

Mr. Kaness most recently served as the Chief Strategy Officer of Urban Outfitters, Inc., where he was the lead executive focused on growth and innovation since 2007. His experience includes direct-to-consumer expansion, new concept development, international partnerships and supply chain optimization. He also brings a wealth of understanding and appreciation for multi-channel retail, social, branding, merchandising and product development.
