MasterCard PayPass Confirms 5,000-Location Rollout

Praying that the "if we build it, they will come" cliché is true, MasterCard PayPass confirmed Thursday that it is adding some 5,000 additional self-service POS terminals—including a lot of vending machines—to its contactless repertoire, in Philadelphia, New York City, Dallas, Chicago, Las Vegas, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Boston, Washington D.C., Denver, Seattle, Miami and Orlando.

MasterCard dubbed the deployment "the largest rollout to date of contactless technology in self service point of sale and vending machines." That would be a more impactful claim if we were seeing tons of companies stampeding to get into that space.
