Is Macy's Thanksgiving opening a blessing or a curse?

Earlier this week, Macy's announced it would open for holiday shopping on Thanksgiving Day. Other retailers, including entire malls in Maryland and Pennsylvania, have announced they will open at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving, and a slew of others will follow suit just two hours later at 8 p.m. Most stores have announced the move as a response to consumer demand.
