Marc Rosen will join clothing brand Levi Strauss next month as exec-VP and president of global e-commerce. Rosen was most recently SVP of global e-commerce at Walmart (NYSE: WMT).
Rosen will establish digital flagship stores for the Levi and Dockers brands to drive omnichannel growth and focus on key high-growth markets for Levi's, including China, France, Germany, Japan and the U.S. He will also be in charge of designing online promotional campaigns that support Levi's "The House" rewards program.
Rosen had served in Walmart's planning, strategy and e-commerce divisions since 2000, and has more than 20 years' experience in retail. Rosen is a former SVP of information systems where he was responsible for Walmart's supply chain and store systems. He also held leadership positions within Walmart's international business unit and was formerly at Ernst & Young.
E-commerce growth has soared and is showing no signs of slowing down. A recent eMarketer study found that e-commerce sales came in at $263.3 billion, up 16.9 percent, or $40 billion, in 2013 compared to 2012. While brick-and-mortar sales still make up the vast majority of the retail market, e-commerce sales are increasing much faster, the study found. Looking ahead, the study predicts e-commerce sales will grow 15.5 percent this year to $304 billion.
"Our e-commerce business has experienced strong, double-digit growth the past few years," said Bergh on Monday, adding that investing in e-commerce continues to be a top priority for Levi reports the Wall Street Journal.
Rosen will report to Levi president and CEO Chip Bergh when he takes up his new role on May 5.
