Kohl's Joins Other Retailers by Announcing Thanksgiving Day Opening

There will be plenty of retail destinations to choose from for shoppers looking to score bargains in the evening hours of Thanksgiving Day. Kohl's (NYSE: KSS) has announced that it, too, will open its doors at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving, following the lead of rivals J.C. Penney (NYSE: JCP) and Macy's (NYSE: M).

The Thanksgiving Day opening is a first for the chain, which opened last year at midnight on Black Friday. With this year's earlier start, the store is set to remain open for 28 hours straight, from 8 p.m. Thursday through midnight Friday.

"Shopping over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend has become a much-anticipated tradition enjoyed with friends and family," Michelle Gass, Kohl's chief customer officer, said in a statement. "As many customers are eager to get a jump start on their shopping, we are opening our stores at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day as a convenience to our customers who want to make Kohl's their first stop."

This year, holiday shoppers will also have the option to use Kohl's new Mobile Wallet iPhone app, which will allow customers to get instant news on sales and promotions and track Kohl's Cash balance right form their mobile device.
