JCPenney names board member Mary Beth West chief customer and marketing officer

JCPenney announced the appointment of Mary Beth West to executive VP and chief customer and marketing officer. She is currently a member of the board of directors but will be stepping down from that position to assume her new role, effective June 1, 2015.

West has been with the board since 2005, serving in several leadership roles at General Foods and Kraft, including executive VP and chief category and marketing officer of Kraft Foods. She most recently worked at Mondelez International, where she held the position of executive VP and chief category and marketing officer.

"Mary Beth's contributions to the board have been invaluable," said Mike Ullman, CEO of JCPenney. "Her vast experience developing and growing some of the world's most trusted and well-known brands was instrumental to our work building an emotional connection with our customers. I am delighted that she will be supporting the company in this new capacity, which will enable us to more directly leverage her knowledge and expertise."

Consequently, she will not stand for re-election to the board and will let her term expire on May 15. The company also announced that Kirk Waldelich has been promoted to senior VP of sales promotion and marketing. He was most recently VP of marketing strategy and will report to West as part of his new role. Press release
