The International Council of Shopping Centers appointed Tom McGee as its new president and CEO, effective Sept. 21. He succeeds Michael Kercheval, ICSC's current president and CEO, who is retiring.
McGee is vice chairman at Deloitte and has more than 15 years of experience in managing complex, global organizations.
Since joining the consulting firm in 1989, McGee has held global and U.S. leadership positions at Deloitte, including deputy CEO; national manager partner of merger and acquisition services; global chief of staff; and membership in the global and U.S. executive and operational leadership committees.
"His client service and global experience were very important qualities to the search committee," said Stephen Lebovitz, president and CEO of CBL & Associates Properties, and ICSC's 2015–2016 chairman. "He has an understanding of how to manage an organization with diverse constituencies around the globe, including different sizes of organizations at various stages of development."
McGee is also involved in charitable and academic organizations, as he is soon to be the chairman of Covenant House International, which provides shelter and counseling to homeless youth. He is also a member of the New York Catholic Foundation Board, the Finance Council of the Archdiocese of New York, and the Board of Regents of Loyola Marymount University.
ICSC's new president and CEO is no stranger to the media as he has appeared on CNBS, Bloomberg and Fox Business and is often quoted in The Wall Street Journal, USA Today and "CFO" magazine. His presence in the media will help ICSC deliver its message—that the industry plays a critical role in economic development and opportunity around the world.
In describing his approach to effective management, McGee said, "Clarity of strategy and clarity of purpose are critical. I like people to feel they're part of a team and that they know and appreciate their importance to the team."
McGee is the fourth person to assume the president and CEO role in ICSC's 58-year history. Press Release
