Hudson's Bay revamps communications

Hudson's Bay Company (TSE:HBC) has created a new corporate communications and public relations division focused on supporting the company's multiple banners and communications efforts.

It's part of the retailer's focus on creating "centers of excellence" in key functions across the organization.

The new division comprises corporate communications, banner public relations, global communications and internal communications. Andrew Blecher has been promoted to SVP corporate communications and public relations and will lead the function.

"The creation of a Communications Center of Excellence aligns with our efforts to ensure we are leveraging our talent across all of our banners and have clear and effective communications to support our long-term growth strategies," said CEO Jerry Storch. "Andrew's track record with HBC makes him the ideal person to elevate the communications function within the organization and to develop and execute a strategic communications roadmap that reflects a truly global retail operation."

Hudson's Bay is having a growth spurt. Sales climbed 70 percent in its recently completed fourth quarter and 36.6 percent for the full-year. There are plans for close to 40 new stores and the addition of Gilt into Saks Off Fifth outlets as the company works to attract younger shoppers.
