Fresh Market adds Michael Casey, Robert Shearer to board

Fresh Market has announced the board appointments of Michael Casey, CEO and director of Carter's, and Robert Shearer, former CFO of V.F. Corporation and current director of Church and Dwight, as two of the company's new independent directors. The appointments became effective May 1, bringing the board to nine directors, eight of whom are independent.

"We are pleased to welcome Mike and Bob, two experienced leaders of high-profile consumer growth and branded companies, to our board of directors," said Ray Berry, chairman of the board, in a statement. "We believe they will bring valuable perspectives to the board, and we look forward to leveraging their knowledge and insight as The Fresh Market moves towards the next level of growth and profitability."

Casey has served in his current role at Carter's since 2008 and has acted as chairman of the board since 2009. He joined the company in 1993, holding positions including executive VP and CFO, senior VP and CFO, senior VP of finance, and VP of finance.

Shearer was previously senior VP and CFO for V.F. Corporation from 2005 until his recent retirement. Before that he held several financial positions including VP controller from 1994 to 1998, controller from 1989 to 1994, and assistant controller from 1986 to 1989. Press release
