EBay VP, North America to exit at year's end

Christopher Payne, eBay's head of North American marketplaces, will  leave the company at the end of the year. Payne is in charge of leading the company's North American business, including general management, marketing, and profit and loss.

Payne joined the company in 2009 when eBay acquired Positronic, a predictive model and machine learning company he co-founded. An eBay statement said he would be leaving to pursue a new business venture.

"A search for Christopher's successor is under way," the company said. "We are grateful to Christopher for all of his many contributions over the years and look forward to following his ongoing success."

Before founding Positronic in 2007, Payne had 13 years of experience with Microsoft and spent three years at Amazon. His departure comes at an uncertain time for eBay as it prepares to spin off its PayPal unit into a separate company and is beginning to focus less on delivery in favor of click-and-collect opportunities.
