Dollar General has new CFO and CAO

Dollar General promoted John Garratt (right) to exec-VP and CFO. Garratt served as interim CFO since June 2015 and started at Dollar General in October 2014 as senior VP of finance and strategy.

"As interim CFO, John has already played a key role as we look to implement our zero-based budgeting process and execute our new store growth," said Todd Vasos, Dollar General's CEO. "We look forward to his future contributions at Dollar General."

Garratt will be responsible for all aspects of Dollar General's finance and information technology operations.

Anita Elliott was also appointed to a new role, chief accounting officer, now reporting to Garratt. Elliott has been senior VP and controller since 2005.

"During her ten years at Dollar General, Anita has consistently demonstrated her leadership and accounting expertise," Vasos said. "She is uniquely qualified to serve as our CAO."

Prior to Dollar General, Garratt held several positions in finance, financial planning and corporate strategy at Yum Brands between 2004 and 2014. He worked in financial management roles at GE for three years and spent nine years at Alcoa.

Elliott's prior experience includes time at Big Lots as VP and controller as well as VP and controller at grocery retailer Jitney-Jungle Stores of America. She practiced public accounting for 12 years, part of which was spent at Ernst & Young, LLP.

Dollar General has been beefing up its executive team as of late. This past summer, two key executives returned to the company, including one who was named chief merchandising officer, and five internal employees were promoted. Press Release
