The Children's Place opens in India

Specialty apparel retailer The Children's Place has teamed up with Arvind Lifestyle Brands to open its first store in India. The 2,500 sq. ft. store is located in Bengaluru's Orion Mall.

Arvind Lifestyle Brands helped make The Children's Place India's first fashion destination for kids, The Hindu Business Line reported.

"We've been in discussions with The Children's Place since 2011, in order to understand the brand, product range, pricing, fits and sizing for the Indian market, before launching it," Suresh J, managing director and CEO of Arvind, told Business Line. "Typically, Indian shoppers cannot get branded fashion wear from apparel to accessories under one roof for kids. The Children's Place has it all, at great pricing, which will be the biggest surprise for Indian shoppers."

A total of 10 stores will open in India by May 2016. Over the course of five years, Arvind will open a total of 40 to 50 stores, each spanning between 2,000 and 2,500 sq. ft.

Arvind partners with other U.S. brands and retailers, most noteworthy the Gap (NYSE:GPS), which opened its first store in India on May 30 in the Select CityWalk mall in Delhi. In total, Arvind plans to open 40 new Gap stores in India next year.
