After several market tests, Chick-fil-A announced that it will launch its mobile payment platform nationwide and is testing mobile ordering.
The mobile payment platform will extend to all national locations. Customers can download the free app from the iTunes store for iOS or Google Play for Android devices, reported Mobile Payments Today. Once customers have the app, they can load funds onto it using a credit or debit card. At payment time, customers just need to tap the pay buttons and scan their account's unique QR code at the register or drive-thru window. The cost of the meal is then automatically deducted.
Mobile ordering is now available in more than 130 Chick-fil-A restaurants in Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, Orlando and Washington, D.C. Customers in these areas can both order and pay on mobile before reaching the restaurant. Plus orders can be saved to use again in the future.
When customers arrive to pick up their food, the app lets them specify "in restaurant" or "delivered to car."
"This literally puts the ordering process in the customers' hands," said Khalilah Cooper, leader of digital ordering strategy, Chick-fil-A. "Mobile ordering is all about giving customers the flexibility and choice to order what they want, when they want it, and how they want it. It's perfect for any customer who is short on time, and it's also convenient for families with children who want to customize a large order and avoid standing in line at the front counter."
Chick-fil-A joins the growing list of restaurants offering a mobile ordering app, including Starbucks (NASDAQ:SBUX). The coffee chain recently announced the expansion of the program, which is currently being tested in Portland, Oregon. In addition, Domino's Pizza (NYSE:DPZ) recently announced that customers can pay for their orders using Google Wallet (NASDAQ:GOOG) as an extension of its own mobile ordering app.
