Canadian Tire has announced the opening of its new Digital Garage, the company's second digital innovation lab. Located in Canada's Silicon Valley North, the facility will allow the company's innovators to develop new in-store and online technologies.
"Becoming a world leader in digitizing the retail experience is a top priority for the company," said Michael Medline, president and CEO, Canadian Tire. "To be a world-class retailer, we are building a strong foundation and implementing the right resources that will successfully take us from the old world to the new. In the Digital Garage, we will create and test cutting-edge software, products and apps in our own environment to take innovation at CTC to the next level."
The Digital Garage is located near the company's two-year-old Communitech lab in Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario. The additional space will provide new digital tools to develop innovative applications.
The company is in the midst of a three-year digital transformation intended to reconsider some of what technology means to the business. Last year Canadian Tire launched its new digital loyalty program, My Canadian Tire 'Money,' and opened its Cloud Nine Digital Innovation Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba, to deliver digital services to customers, suppliers, employees and partners.
The retailer operates a lab store in the Toronto and West Edmonton Mall flagship location. Canadian Tire will soon open its first Showcase Store in Edmonton, Alberta, as it channels its focus on the digital experience.
Canadian Tire is ingratiating itself further into the growing list of retailers building innovation labs to improve in-store technology. Sephora, Lowe's, Cole Haan and Under Armour have opened similar facilities.
