Can facial recognition tell you if your customers are mad?

Emotient has a new spin on facial analysis tech: facial-expression recognition software. Based on the work of psychologist Paul Ekman, the software can identify seven emotions, mostly negative. Guaging sadness, anger, fear, disgust, contempt, surprise and joy, CEO Ken Denman told Bloomberg Businessweek the software could be applied to in-store cameras to let managers track their consumers' reactions on-site.

"The worst thing is if customers are angry and no one notices," he said. "This measures the level of emotion across the store. It's a level of mathematical evidence. If customers are angry, managers could put more employees on the floor or give out samples." Story
