BlackBerry names Marty Beard COO

Mobile communications retailer BlackBerry (NASDAQ:BBRY) announced former LiveOps CEO Marty Beard as COO on July 21.

Beard will oversee cross-functional organizations such as marketing, BlackBerry 10 application development, customer care and quality, according to a company statement. Before joining BlackBerry, Beard acted as chairman and CEO of LiveOps, a cloud applications provider for customer service. He spearheaded LiveOps' use of the cloud, mobile and social interactions to improve customer service.

Beard hails from Sybase 365, a subsidiary of Sybase Inc., where he was president. Last November former Sybase CEO John Chen was appointed CEO and chairman of BlackBerry.

"BlackBerry continues to attract top talent to the company," Chen said. "Marty brings extensive experience in operations, marketing and serving customers through the best technologies and processes available.

BlackBerry's previous COO, Kristian Tear, left in the November 2013 management shakeup that followed the ousting of former CEO Thorsten Heins in May 2012. Press Release
