Big Lots launches Hispanic information hub

Big Lots has launched a Spanish information hub for Hispanic consumers. Big Lots Latino provides culturally relevant information including tips on home decor, beauty, health, food and crafts for Hispanic shoppers.

The new hub and social media platform is a way for the retailer to diversify its outreach and connect with Hispanics, a rapidly growing segment of the U.S. population.

"Big Lots wants to be a part of the online conversations our customers are having about our brands," stated Andrew Stein, Big Lots senior VP and chief customer officer. "As a leading discount retailer, it's important for us to understand what resonates with her and deliver information in ways that help her make more informed purchasing decisions."

As part of the platform, Big Lots recently expanded its social media presence with Spanish language pages on Facebook and Twitter. The retailer is working with leading Latina bloggers such as Kathy Cano-Murillo of Crafty Chica, Pattie Cordova of Living Mi Vida Loca, and Rocio Chavez of Your Sassy Self for insider tips and the latest DIY trends.

Though not exclusively Latino, Big Lots has a presence on Pinterest, YouTube and Instagram.

Other retailers that have been reaching out to this growing consumer market include CVS Health (NYSE:CVS), which last month rebranded 11 Miami stores and opened one new one, all named CVS/pharmacy y mas (CVS/pharmacy and more). And last summer, during soccer's World Cup frenzy, JCPenney (NYSE:JCP) created a campaign specifically geared toward Hispanic shoppers.
